Trevor Savage
About Trevor
Trevor is a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs in complex, high-stakes litigation across Northern New England. He focuses his practice on truck accidents, medical malpractice, and other catastrophic injury cases. Since joining Gideon Asen in 2023, he has helped recover over $40 million for clients facing devastating injuries and loss.
Before joining the firm, Trevor spent years representing corporations, hospitals, healthcare providers, and insurance companies in highly leveraged litigation. That experience gives him a unique strategic advantage: he knows how the other side evaluates risk, how they prepare for trial, and how to expose the weaknesses in their case. Today, he uses that insight to fight for people whose lives have been upended by carelessness and injustice.

In 2024, Trevor and his colleague, Taylor Asen, secured a $2.4 million jury verdict in a medical malpractice case involving a rare pain disorder, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), as a result of the hospital’s negligence. It was one of the largest medical malpractice verdicts in Maine in recent years, and particularly in Penobscot County: one of the most conservative counties in the state.
Trevor discussed the unique challenges of that trial on the Elawvate podcast:

In 2023, Trevor and his colleague, Ben Gideon, secured a mid-trial settlement in a case involving a hospital’s nearly-five-year delay in diagnosing his client’s prostate cancer. After the hospital refused to make a meaningful pretrial offer, Trevor and Ben presented a compelling case to the jury. After the fourth day of trial, the defense agreed to settle—an outcome that protected the client from risk and delivered real accountability.
Trevor also appeared on the Elawvate podcast to discuss the legal issues involved in that trial:

Before focusing on catastrophic personal injury cases, Trevor made a national impact in ERISA law by winning a landmark case before the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. That decision established a new fiduciary duty that insurance companies owe to health plan beneficiaries—reshaping how insurers handle benefit claims and strengthening protections for plan beneficiaries across the country. Today, Trevor continues that fight on a different front, holding insurance companies accountable in personal injury and medical malpractice cases to ensure his clients receive the justice and compensation they deserve.

Trevor is frequently invited to speak on trial practice and litigation strategy. He has presented before the Maine State Bar Association, the Maine Attorney General’s Office, the Gignoux Inn of Court, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Maine Trial Lawyers Association.
He has been recognized by his peers and the legal profession as a top trial lawyer. He has been named to Best Lawyers – Ones to Watch and listed as a Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” from 2022 through 2025: an honor bestowed to only 2.5% of all lawyers.
A Maine native, Trevor is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, and then the University of Maine School of Law. At Maine Law, he served as Managing Editor of the Maine Law Review and as a legal writing teaching assistant for first-year students. He also worked as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Kermit V. Lipez of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
During law school, he distinguished himself—alongside his then-classmate and current colleague, Meryl Poulin—as one of two “Prize Arguers” of their class and argued before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. He and Meryl later competed nationally on the school’s moot court team, finishing in the top three of a competition of more than forty teams.
After graduating, Trevor served as a law clerk to the Honorable Joseph M. Jabar of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, gaining invaluable experience analyzing complex legal issues and observing appellate advocacy firsthand.
Trevor lives in North Berwick with his wife, Amy, and his two sons, Jacob and Will.
