Ask the expert is sponsored by Gideon Asen. Ever wonder what it really cost to hire an attorney hourly versus contingency fees? Who pays what when? Well, Taylor Aisen with the Gideon Aisen law firm is here to help us understand that a little bit better. Taylor, thanks so much for having us. It's my pleasure. Let's start with the basics. Right? What is the difference between a contingency fee and an hourly fee? So an hourly fee is what it sounds like. You pay a lawyer by the hour, and most types of lawyers work that way. If you're getting a will done, if you're getting having criminal defense, hopefully, you don't need that. If you're going to a family lawyer, those lawyers either tend to charge a flat fee or they charge by the hour. In personal injury work, we take what's called a contingent fee, meaning we only take a fee if we recover money for you and then we take a portion of that recovery. So when it comes to personal injury, can you be a little bit more specific on that? Yeah. So that could be anything from medical malpractice, you're hit by a truck, God forbid, a motor vehicle collision, what's called premises liability, meaning you fall somewhere that it was unsafe. Those are the types of cases that tend to be on contingent fee. If somebody has a lawyer on a contingency fee, what should they know about how and when their attorney is paid? Well, the good part about being on about having a lawyer on contingent fee is if you can't afford to pay that lawyer right away, you don't have to worry about it. That it's gonna come out of, what you recover. The other good thing about it is contingent fee lawyers generally charge about the same amount. So it means you really get to shop on quality. You don't have to worry about, the best lawyer is gonna charge me more because we all charge about the same. So you can really just find the best lawyer to do to do your case. How does one of our viewers find the best lawyer for their case? Well, I think you should always be very discriminating. You should look online. Now with the with the Internet, we can learn much more about lawyers than we used to be able to. And if if you have any doubts about it at all, you should talk to multiple lawyers. And, of course, you should call us, although I'm biased. Well, if anybody would like more information, whether it's on hourly and contingency fees, maybe they would just like to know more about if their case is a right fit for you, how do they find you? They can give us a call or look us up online. Excellent. Taylor, thanks so much. I should mention as well, we'll have more information on WGME dot com.
